This is a short video of The Unicorn Theatre Company synopsising the play and describing their characters it also shows them in rehersals and how they portray and have choson tostage and perform it.I thought this was a really interesting video because I could compare their production to ours and see the similarities and differences between the two.

First lesson back!! 10/01/13
First lesson back!! We started the class off with a group exercise where we each wrote in character how our christmas was. This is mine in the role of mother:
Its christmas morning, I am awoken by Kojo and Tambas screams of excitement. Kojo runs into my room and pokes his head out of the covers laying in between his father and I he laughs and plays, his father shoos Kojo out of the bed, as he leaves he takes my hand and pulls me out of bed, he leads me to the main room where 2 presents lay. Tamba looks at me with excitement in his eyes he picks up the present and gives me a smile as if to say PLEASE CAN I OPEN IT MOTHER! I give a gentle nod as he rips the paper making it fly all over the room 'A NEW BALL' he says he runs over and kisses me on the cheek, Kojo gives a jealous glance

In last weeks lesson we continued to work on Fugee.
Isabella and Brett began working on scenes (scene 17-20). Staging during rehearsals was paramount and was changed a lot during the class. In scene 22 they used wooden boxes as seats set out in a train like format, using the boxes made me think about stage awareness a lot more, and how the use of props can effect the scene and have a strong impact on the stage.
I wasn't in any of the scenes that week so i carried on learning my lines and thinking about my staging. I also gave my opinions and ideas to the actors and watched to see how everything was being stages and performed.

Character Studies 19/12/12
On the last lesson of the term we each got given a sheet which had a template of a person on it we were told to write about our characters inside of them.
This was like an exercise we had done during the first week of the learning about the play, where we did this with the characters Kojo, Ara and Cheung working in groups, doing that made me learn a great deal about the main characters but now I got a chance to learn about my own. I learnt from quotes that she was fatter then the actor playing her ( Kojo scene 7), that she was pretty ( Ara scene 2) and that she was from Ivory Coast ( Kojo scene 1).
I learnt from myself and when I am playing her that she is a happy, motherly woman who comes across warm and sincere I also imagined her to be quite fat ( from Kojo's line scene 7) and to have an approachable and homely kind of face I thought that she would wear an apron as this reminded me of a traditional mother and she comes across as a very maternal woman.

Evaluation of peer performance 13/12/12
Name: Jacob Gibson
Role: Manager
What I found good?
Jacob showed that he could show differentiation between voices until he found the right one to fit his character, he did this independently and made choices about his character quickly and effectively. He thought about his body language and how he could portray a caring and friendly figure, and how to communicate with each of the characters.
Jacob also showed a good attitude towards criticism and advice and took on board what was said so that he could develop the role of the manager.
Things he could improve on?
I think that Jacob could improve his role by learning lines ( although we have only just started) it could help him have more confidence in himself and on stage.

Class Exercise
Punctuation dance exercise
In the lesson we did a class exercise called punctuation dancing where we came up with movements for different types of punctuation eg. a full stop (.) this was a jump on the spot, a question mark (?) this was a swoop/ curve movement of the arm going down, an ellipsis (...) this was 3 punches and 3 kicks etc.
We were each given a character and then were told to walk around the room reading the script and each time we came to a piece of punctuation, stop and act out the movement for that particular piece of punctuation. When doing this i came across a lot of punctuation, this made me more aware of the punctuation in the play and how the character means to be saying the text.
I learnt from my character (Ara) that she uses a lot of question marks and full stops for example 'They show videos on Friday. Except when they break down. They always break. Then there's ping pong. Ping-pong?' Ara uses full stops a lot that shows she is quite blunt and to the point, also that she takes a lot of pauses in her speech, this may be because she doesn't know how to keep conversations flowing and that she is always making a point.
